Tasty Poh’s Chye Poh Hor Fun At Empress Road Market and Food Centre

There is a stall that caught our attention today during our lunch in Empress Road Market and Food Centre. The stall sells Hor Fun and one of their specialties is the Preserved Vegetable Hor Fun also known as Chye Poh Hor Fun that interests us to check this stall out.

WHAT IS A PRESERVED VEGETABLE HOR FUN

Preserved Vegetable Hor Fun is a common home-cooked Teochew dish that uses preserved vegetables which are mainly made of preserved radish which is also known as Chye Poh. Hor Fun is also known as Kway Teow or thick flat rice noodles.

Beside the Chye Poh Hor Fun, the hawker stall is like a mini tze char stall that also sells other stir fry dishes such as shrimp fried rice, prawn paste chicken, moonlight hor fun and other varieties.

The Verdict of The Chye Poh Hor Fun

We decided to order a plate of Chye Poh Hor Fun which is priced at $5 and it was ready within a few minutes.

The look of the Chye Poh Hor Fun looks like the Chye Poh Neng (preserved radish omelet) with prawns but when we cut open from the middle, it reveals the fragrance of the Chye Poh together with hor fun hidden underneath.

The chype poh is not so salty but the fragrance of the chye poh blend in well with the spring onions and also the peppery with wok hei taste of the hor fun. The portion is just right for one person with generous chunks of chye poh, eggs and also fresh prawns.

The overall experience is like eating a dry friend kway teow or hor fun together with chye poh neng (egg).

The Verdict of Prawn Paste Chicken

We also ordered a plate of Prawn Paste Chicken (Har Chiong Gai) which is priced at $7. The portion comes with a total of 7 pieces with a combination of drumlets and mid wings.

The chicken was nicely fried. When you bite the chicken, you can feel that it is crispy with a strong prawn paste taste in your mouth. We recommend you to order this dish as well to go along with your hor fun.
